Financial Matters
Hotel/Motel Tax Collections (July-September)
Taxes were down $290,000 (5.7%) over the prior year and 4.5% below projections. Higher-end hotels were flat, while budget and economy hotels saw significant declines in occupancy and room rates.
Sales and Use Tax Collections (October)
Sales tax was 2.2% below prior year and 3.3% below projections. Retail sales tax was down 1.5% for the fourth consecutive month. Building materials down 12.2%, food stores up 4.7%, restaurants up 3.9%. Utilities continued negative impact, down for 10 consecutive months. Use tax was 9.7% below prior year and 15.8% below projections. Retail portion of use tax was down 3.4% for the first time after steady growth. Total sales and use tax through October is $5.4 million below budget.
Project School Film Incentive
Allocation of funds for "Project School," an Oklahoma-based feature film, qualifying for a 5% rebate. Anticipated local expenditures total $1.864 million, with an estimated 587 local hires. Total economic impact modeled at $4.9 million.
