Public Comments
Public comments covered a range of topics. For the public safety discussion, a citizen requested an independent review of police transparency. For the hospital project, there was strong support for increased medical services in southeast Norman, but also concerns from adjacent neighbors regarding traffic, noise (helipad, ambulances), and the service road design. For the medical marijuana processor, concerns were raised about traffic, smell, and security. The short-term rental ordinance generated the most public input, with residents expressing strong opposition due to concerns about noise, parties, safety, property values, housing stock displacement, and potential for illegal activities like human trafficking. Short-term rental hosts, however, supported the ordinance, viewing it as necessary regulation for tax collection and industry quality. Questions were also raised about enforcement mechanisms, HOA authority, and the city's monitoring service.
